We hope everyone is having a pleasant winter! The house is still tucked in for its winter nap, but we are getting geared up and excited for the upcoming season! We have some great events planned for this year including a Revolutionary War encampment weekend, 5th Annual Gala Day, Way Back Weekends, Trails and Sails and MORE! So keep checking our Events page and add us on Facebook for more updates!
The Rebecca Nurse Homestead is pleased to announce a special opportunity during Historic Holidays this year. We will be joined by Marcella Comerford, from Portraits in Silhouette.
You can get your very own custom silhouette portraits just in time for the holidays! These make wonderful family mementos and gifts. Part of the proceeds will benefit the ongoing preservation of the Rebecca Nurse Homestead.
Please follow this link for more details and to reserve your spot ahead of time!
September 19th and 20th: 10am-3pm
Come get dirty with us, as you become an archaeologist for the day! The Rebecca Nurse Homestead was at the center of a summer archaeology program, run by the University of Southern Maine and Phillips Andover Academy, teaching students of all ages how to become archaeologists. Now it’s your turn. Thousands of artifacts have given a glimpse into the lives of those who have walked these grounds for the past millennia, many now on display.
At 12:30pm we will have a lecture by archaeologist Dr. Nate Hamilton, who will talk about what has already been discovered over the years.
**New this year will be the use of remote sensing to see what secrets are hidden beneath the ground without even picking up a shovel!
Hosted in conjunction with Essex National Heritage Area’s Trails & Sails: Two Weekends of Walks and Water
Please note the updated changes in our hours for the rest of the season
September: Saturday and Sunday 10am-3pm
October: Friday, Saturday and Sunday 10am-3pm
November: Saturday and Sunday 10am-3pm
Also Keep checking back here or on our Facebook for more information about our Historic Holiday Event coming up in November!
August 29: 10:00am-2:00pm
Come down to the Rebecca Nurse Homestead for our Summer Site Clean Up. There is lots to do around a 25 acre homestead with a 300 year old house, and we want it to look sharp for our fall tourist rush.
There are jobs for ages and abilities including sweeping out the buildings, weeding, pruning, clearing out brush, and helping organize the herb garden. Even if you are not able to help with the maintenance, please come down and just say hi! It is a great opportunity to see the site, meet some quality folk, and help preserve a true national treasure. Children and families are, as always, welcome!
Join us to learn about 5000 years of Danvers History. The next installment of the Way Back Weekends series will take us back to pre-historic Danvers. Learn about the signs of pre-colonial presence in Danvers, and take part in an archaeological dig with Nate Hamilton from the University of Southern Maine.
The Eugene Winter Chapter of Mass Archaeological Society will be also hosting an Atlatl activity at the homestead. Atlatl is an ancient spear-throwing stick used for hunting. Come give it a try!
